Kitchens for Restaurants, Hotels and Cafés
Our clients in the hospitality sector range from busy cafés through to large hotels and notable restaurants. Together with over 30 years’ experience of commercial kitchen design, the team at GLS can be relied on for everything from innovative ideas and practical insights to professional installation and project management.
We design and install kitchens that are ergonomic, efficient, safe and reliable. We understand all the factors that are key to success restaurant, hotel and café kitchens, including ensuring an optimal workflow from delivery and storage, through preparation and cooking, to service and wash-up.
We are used to designing kitchens for spaces large and small, new and old, simple and complex. (One project even saw us closing a busy London street in order to crane equipment into a 5th-floor restaurant.)
Importantly, we also appreciate that presentation can be as important as practicality. Many restaurants now like to reveal the theatre of their kitchen to customers. This means that the kitchen design needs to put cooking and food preparation areas on show, while ensuring storage and washing facilities are out of sight.
Our kitchen design and installation work for restaurant group Prescott & Conran is a good example of our work.
Bar and kitchen design case study: Lutyens and Albion
Lutyens in Fleet Street required two kitchens, one being the restaurant kitchen on the ground floor – which was visible to customers through a windowed wall – while the second was on the building’s lower level.
Meanwhile the larger Albion in Clerkenwell saw us design and install three kitchens. These comprised the main kitchen on the ground floor, which serviced the grill room and café; a bakery kitchen on the lower ground floor, which supplied both the restaurant and the shop; and a basement kitchen to service the Albion’s pie room. The kitchens were linked via a lift with the wash-up located on the ground floor level.

How GLS design a kitchen for your restaurant, hotel or café
Our work starts with a meeting to gain an overview of your project, including your operational requirements, budgets, and the building or area within it where the kitchen is to be located.
We’ll develop an initial CAD layout, with options where applicable, and discuss this with you in detail. A more in-depth CAD layout would follow, with an equipment legend and an itemised quotation.
Once costs are agreed and options chosen, a comprehensive services layout is produced detailing the mechanical and electrical requirements.
GLS support you right through to completion… and beyond
Whether you would like us to undertake the installation, or whether you already have an installation team in place, we can provide a designated project manager who will attend meetings, and will liaise with architects and contractors.
Further to completion, we perform a thorough handover, furnishing you with operational manuals and certificates, and arranging equipment training if required.
And once everything is up and running, we’re always just a phone call away if you’ve questions or further requirements.
Whether you are refurbishing an existing kitchen or needing a new kitchen for a restaurant, hotel or café we’re happy to help and advise. Please note that we also design and install bars. For more details of how we can help, please get in touch.
Whether you need is a single item or the full suite of catering equipment for a commercial kitchen or bar, the team at GLS can advise on specification and provide a competitive quotation.
We design, supply and install commercial kitchen ventilation systems that include canopies; extraction, heating and cooling systems; fans and controls; and fire suppression systems.
